Daily Outfit

Wool Felt Hat - Crochette, Pin Stripe Shirt - Ojay, Wide Leg Pants- Made by me, Shoes - Sachi

After yesterdays post about wide leg pants, I went and dug out a pair that I knocked up a couple of years back. They were made in an afternoon, so the pattern quickly became one of my favorites and I think I made about four different pairs!

It was a lovely sunny Autumn day here, and today was just more doctors visits with the girls and lunch at mums. Any opportunity will do to break out a hat. Mind you, I don't quite know what it is about hats. I could wear a baseball cap or beret and people don't give it a second look. But wear something with an inch more statement, and shopping is like Moses parting the Red Sea. At least in a suburban shopping precinct. Perhaps next time I'll break out the matching gloves too.

Mama if you wear anything that deviates from the snap track pant and sloppy Everlast tee combo and the sloths at 'fashion precincts' will eat you alive.

Fab job on the pants.

I adore your look! I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now (loving it!)the 40's-50's era styles are one of my faves... I have just got an old singer sewing book from the 40's and it has some beautiful styles that I am itching to try!

Imelda: Indeed those sloths can be nasty, but you'd may surprised just how much Mama can bite should the moment call for it.
Sweetleaf: Thanks for reading and so glad you're enjoying it.
I'd love to see you post some of your sewing triumphs.

I hope that hat got the respect it deserves at the mall! I have a favour to ask.. Would you consider doing a post on styling your hair? Your hair always looks so polished and I would love to learn how you do it.

Oh I adore the hat - you're such a pretty lady.

What a pretty look today! I love the addition of the hat. Some people look great in hats and others not....I'm a hat person and think we should bring them back into style!

My last pair of short gloves were Easter 1976, the last dying gasp of gloves for women and girls. Those need to come back, too!

Cybill: I would love to do a hair post for you. I'll see what I can do in the coming week.
Wendy, Nadine & Tizz: Thank you!
Amy G: I was only just wondering today when it was that hats and gloves really disappeared from society. I am sure if I Googled it enough, I could find a paper somewhere tracking their decline.

Katie: I really love the mix of those colours too. Soft with out being too wishy washy. Thanks for visiting, I am a huge fan of your blog.

I am in sweet, sickly, pining puppy dog looove with your pants! What pattern did you use (if you don't mind sharing your secrets with me)? How did you make them look so flattering? The whole outfit is delish, as usual, but my oh my...those pants. And I second the hair how to... I'd love to have some tips on how to tame the beast.

Ever admiring,

Alison Jerabek

Alison: I'd be happy to share my secrets. The Pattern you so covet is by Kwik Sew, pattern no. 2990 and comes in xs-xl. To get the right fit, I suggest going by your bust measurement (I know this sounds very strange for pants) and taking that measurement under your bust, not including the cup. I have found this is the most accurate way to get the best fit. This pattern is for non stretch fabrics and it has a rear zip, so has a flat front which is most flattering. It also has a mid rise waist, coming up about to the belly button, so it holds everything in. I do have some other similar patterns for stretch fabric if you need any other recommendations.
