Where oh where have I been these last few days? Melting, somewhat like that scene in the Wizard of Oz. The weather here has been the hottest I have ever known in this country, as testified by the thermometer on my back verandah. While the rest of the city has been suffering power outages for days on end in this heat, I've been fortunate to still have cooling, which meant that my plans for an afternoon tea with friends this weekend was still able to happen.

With all this super hot weather I've had a chance to break out some of the fab summer dresses I brought back from the USA. This one is by Giorgio Fiorlini and I love the bright green tropical print against the hot pink piping. It makes me think I should be kicking back somewhere nursing a Long Island Iced tea. Now there's a thought...

Today I'm trying to relax a little on our first cooler day in a long time, as Miss Four starts school tomorrow! So with another super hot week predicted and the challenges of the first week of school, this is bound to be one for the record books.

Yes, this is actually the thermometer on my back verandah, can you make out what is says?

Spectacular as per usual SKM! I am a fan of green and red together but I never dreamed of green and pink! They get on quite well don't they?

oh, goodness. i got some friends travelling through australia at the moment. i do not want to be in their shoes - even though i'd love to travel a bit. but right now, i'm rather happy with the little snow we had last night...

Gorgeous dress! And your makeup is sublime. Love. It.

And speaking of the Wizard of Oz, this witch definitely melted into little more than a gooey puddle on the floor during this (literally breathtaking) heat.

But it looks like you survived in style SKM!

Oh, you poor thing! I am SUPER impressed that you managed to stay so completely glamorous and elegant through all of the heat wave, I would have absolutely MELTED!

P.S. Congrats on 300 posts, that's brilliant! :)

I would take the heat over all of this snow in my backyard. You make the heat look good. :)

That's completely insane! Nearly 50 degrees! I am melting when the termometer reaches ca. 30 here in Norway.

By the way, congrats on 300 posts!

What a great look for a super-hot day! Send some of the heat this way as the arctic winds sweep down to chill us to the bone!

K.Line: You betcha!
The Retro housewife: I can understand that but it always seems to be easier to get warmer than cooler.
Out of the mist: Thanks!
Wendy B: Well, lets just say 'glowing'.
Danielle: indeed, my garden is pretty much black now.
Thombeau: Thanks for dropping by!
Emma G: Oh that just made my day, thank you!
richardfitzme: Just like a watermelon!
Froken Lila: It seems that no matter where is Australia that they would be at the moment, the weather is full of surprises. Heat waves here at cyclones elsewhere!
Docwitch: Yet ironically there isn't enough water to go around for all these melting people.
Miss Corrine: It is tempting to spend the day in a breezy nightgown, but I'm not sure that I could face going out for milk in that alone!
Catnip intoxicating: I don't know about that... It is the kind of heat that kills plants, pets and people. Nasty stuff, but it makes people really pull together to help each other out.
Anon: Ohh Norway! Dreaming of Norway would help keep me cooler for sure.
Floraposte: If only I could. Perhaps if everyone in Melbourne took a deep breath and collectively blew in your direction...?

ah Super mama! Congratulations on 300 posts, that is 300 very pretty and very creative inspirations to all of us.

Of course you are glowing, and you had the hot nights too!
Time to bring in the tradition of siesta in Melbourne.

Good luck tomorrow, will be thinking of you. Don't forget the waterproof mascara. I wonder what you have planned for the school gate outfit, I predict a stir!
xx

45.1 degrees celsius, going by what it was up here!

I love that green dress! Halter necks are heaven sent in this weather, and they look lovely on many different shaped women. You do the bright green and white well!

I was thinking of you when I saw the weather on tv last week - I hope you just stayed indoors! First day of school, that is so huge - does she wear a uniform, is she excited, are you stressed about it all?
Oh and that dress looks great on you!

OMG, it's far too hot over there! A little better here, -10 C :)

How you managed to match your lovely lippie to the trim on your dress is beyond me. And THEN match the dress to the foliage behind you.

Gorgeous!!!!! I think you brought some warmth into my day :P

Holy gawd!!! 112 degrees fahrenheit is unreal!!! Nice to see you're keeping it cool, that green looks great on you. I know in that heat I'd probably go around naked. I pray for you that it is not too humid!
