Mama's Got Some New Shoes

While wandering through Chadstone on Friday, I was stopped in my tracks by these fabulous shoes. Although I was looking for a low heeled boot, I could not go past these cuties from Wittner. I am already picturing them with any number of coloured stocking underneath.


And whilst I wait for my Sock Dreams stocking to arrive, I couldn't pass up these knitted cotton socks from Jonathan Aston. You'll find loads of covetable items on this site, which sadly, is not taking orders at present. But for those of you in Melbourne, Myer city and Chadstone do stock a fairly comprehensive selection of his range. I was lusting after these Gothic tights, but with my aversion to pantyhose, I'd like to see them in a stocking form.

Now I just need to plan a night on the town to wear these beauties.

Sock It To Me Baby!

I hate Pantyhose. Even the word "pantyhose' has a very nasty feel in my mouth. They may hold you in in the right places, but there is much sexier underwear for that these days. The idea of going out to dinner with my man in a gorgeous dress and *ugh* pantyhose, does not bode well for the romantic portion of the evening. Now, while I love a sexy stocking with a smooth, silky texture and the little snappy clasps up top, they are simply not something to be worn everyday when you spend a lot of time on the floor and chasing after children.

So I think my answer to leg wear this coming winter will be socks. Lovely, long, over the knee socks made in finely spun yarn. While OTN socks are just starting to make it into some of the more specialist stores here in Australia, there is a veritable treasure trove online. I love the selection at Sock Dreams.
Although I love to look at so many of the designs - the stripes, the flames, the skulls - with my legs not really being my best feature, they aren't something I want to highlight. Also I am a little worried that if I get it wrong I could end up looking like an extra from the Wizard of Oz! So with that in mind, I think these fine cotton ones are just the ticket for me. Perfect for pairing with my more outlandish heels, rather than having to spend my whole winter in boots.



So now I've solved that problem, I just need to find a use for all those packets of pantyhose in the back of the cupboard. Anyone planning a bank robbery?

Structure and Socks

This beach side outfit, seen on Helena Bonham Carter, for Sweeney Todd has me all a-flutter. What a fabulous movie on so many levels. I love it when Hollywood gets musicals right and you don't find yourself thinking, "oh, another song? When will they get back to the story?" Tim Burton's screen adaptation of Sweeney Todd is another triumph of gothic fantasy goodness. But it was this costume that got me thinking....

How does one dress for the tropics when it is only 20 degrees celcius outside?? Here is my dilemma. I take my daughter to swimming lessons once a week in a heated indoor pool, where the temperature inside is often 38 degrees with 99 % humidity. However, with Autumn upon us, the weather outside is often below 20 degrees and will only continue to drop. Now, I realize layering is the simple answer but I never like to be about "simple".

Perhaps I can channel some of the 'structure & socks' look of Helena's I so covet right now. That should give the 'old jeans and bad t-shirt brigade' something to talk about! Let's see what happens when I open the wardrobe tomorrow.
