The Next Chapter

Image courtesy of Donna Lethal on Flickr

Tired with the old?... Looking for a new way to perk up your morning?...There are changes a foot here at Super Kawaii Mama..so hold onto your knickers!

I've outgrown my little corner here at blogger, so come on over and find the all new and improved www.superkawaiimama.com

It should be much more user friendly for you to search what you are looking for, and includes more of your reader requests. In the transition if you could update your links it would be much appreciated. I will leave this site here so you can still find me if you land here, but all the content and your comments have been moved across to the new site. While there is much more new content in the works, most of what you will find to begin with is a more searchable version of the last twelve months worth of posts.

Yes, that's right. I'm over one year old now, so time for something bigger and better. Should you encounter any problems with the new way of doing things, make sure to drop me a line so I can fix them right up.

So don't delay, click away...

Snow White Goes Hard Core

Some time ago, I was presented with a challenge by local fetish and bondage wear designer Peter Martin, to style his handcuff belt (named the Briannatron) in my own unique, Super Kawaii way. Each piece is personally made by Peter using top quality New Zealand leather, steel attachments and saddlery rivets. Buttery soft and sharp all at the same time.

Both myself and fellow Aussie blogger Esme and the Laneway, both took on the challenge to showcase his creation, shooting it with our own particular spin. I was so interested to see Peter's work worn in a different and unpredictable manner. All too often alternative designers and their wares are pidgeon holed as only being relevant to those with hardcore tastes. But look a little further, unleash your creativity, and explore a whole new fashion language just waiting for you to make it sing.

300 Posts and it only gets Hotter!

Outfit details: Dress - Georgio Fiorlini (recycle boutique find), Shoes - Rohde, Hair flower - Wicked Sista.
Makeup: Base - Laura Mercier mineral veil in Rose Tendre, Eyes - Laura Mercier Vanilla Nuts, Eyeliner - Shiseido liquid liner in black, Mascara - Loreal Telescopic in Carbon Black, Blush - Mac, Lipstick - Avon colour wear in Plush.

Where oh where have I been these last few days? Melting, somewhat like that scene in the Wizard of Oz. The weather here has been the hottest I have ever known in this country, as testified by the thermometer on my back verandah. While the rest of the city has been suffering power outages for days on end in this heat, I've been fortunate to still have cooling, which meant that my plans for an afternoon tea with friends this weekend was still able to happen.

With all this super hot weather I've had a chance to break out some of the fab summer dresses I brought back from the USA. This one is by Giorgio Fiorlini and I love the bright green tropical print against the hot pink piping. It makes me think I should be kicking back somewhere nursing a Long Island Iced tea. Now there's a thought...

Today I'm trying to relax a little on our first cooler day in a long time, as Miss Four starts school tomorrow! So with another super hot week predicted and the challenges of the first week of school, this is bound to be one for the record books.

Yes, this is actually the thermometer on my back verandah, can you make out what is says?

Highballs & High Heels

It is not often these days, that one is invited to a cocktail party where you are ensured of both stylish company and an appropriate ambiance. This Saturday proved to be the exception, as I headed into Madame Brussels to meet with some blogging beauties for a delicious afternoon.

It was the perfect excuse to break out this frock which, although not yet seen here, has quickly become a favorite of mine. It is a late 1950's number in a light wool blend, with the most delightful shawl collar. The print is somewhat of a water coloured effect paisley in my favorite jewel tones. I discovered this gem in a huge vintage shop in Houston, which was primarily filled with 70's - 80's gear and lots of dirty looking second hand clothing. But the shopping gods chose to reward my patience and after getting rather filthy sorting through the dross, this little lady danced her way into my wardrobe. And yes, I did already happen to have the perfect purple pumps.

And so, with the promise of some scintillating company, and the rain clouds beginning their ascent, I headed in for an afternoon of Highballs and High Heels.

If you've never been to Madame Brussels, I'd recommend that you get together with your most stylish and witty pals, and spend the afternoon there pronto. If you go in for the dramatic and theatrical, this is the perfect place to play stage to your grand ambitions or perhaps to just take you away from it all.

Read All About It

After a long day of shooting photos for my portfolio, I don't have all that much to show and tell today. I do however, have a new interview to share with you that appears over at Time Warp Wives. (click to link to read) Here's a little to wet your whistle.

Candice decided to start her blog after a confrontation with a woman at the gym, who verbally attacked her for looking the way she does. “Instead of washed out and haggard, I decided to spread my message of feeling good through daily glamour in a more public forum. I believe that to a great extent you create your own reality and can chose to live in a more beautiful world, even if you do spend most of your time chasing after two small children. ” she added.

Stay tuned tomorrow for all the fun and fashion of The Way We Wear Fair!

Paying it Forward

This week I have been fortunate enough to receive not one, but two awards from my fellow bloggers.

The I Love Your Blog Award from Spira Girl of School Gate Chic.
Of course there are rules that come hand in hand with these honors:

1. The nominated is allowed to put the picture on their blogs.
2. Link to the person who awarded you.
3. Nominate seven other people and link to them.
4. Leave a message on those people's blog to make them aware that they're nominated.

And the nominees are....

Milkberry Musings: Cute, creative and such a ray of sunshine.
Dairy of a Vintage Girl: Fleur the divine and her Pin Up life.
Cybill at Sorting it Out, for always making me think.
Hammie at Hammies Blog, for parenting skills and a positive attitude that puts me to shame
Hayley of Fashion Hayley Hits Home: Creative, stylish, inspired and always reaching for the stars with great success. I love this chick!
From Japan With Love: A new favorite that is feeding my addiction for Kawaiiness.
Sister Wolf from Godammit I'm Mad in all her vitriolic goodness. Ahhh...

And from the lovely DocWitch from Dark Side of the Broom, I've been honored with the Kreativ Blogger Award. This one also comes with the proviso that I name 6 things I like.

My 6 Things:
  • The smell of a wood fire
  • Silken Tofu
  • Small, well adorned, fluffy dogs
  • Sleeping on 1200 thread count, percale cotton sheets with freshly waxed legs
  • Williams Sonoama Pumpkin Spice hand lotion -( I discovered it on my recent trip to Houston and I have been slathering my body in it. It makes you smell so delicious no man, dog or cookie craving child can resist you. )
  • Cleaning my fridge and then re-styling it with loads of fresh vegitables, Perrier and expensive champagne.

Nominees:
Tizzalicious: Creative, crafty, and a savvy little entrepreneur that is always a ray of sunshine in my day.
The Sunday Best: Perfect prose, rapier wit and a snappy dresser to boot.
Aus Style: Not only a fashion maverick in her early teens, this nominee had also launched her own fashion E-Zine.
Other Side of the Rainbow:
For a life in pictures that never fails to inspire, enthrall and make me very very hungry.
Casey's Musings: Gorgeous, stylish and a rather talented graphic designer.
Trend De La Creme: Photoshop Master, (or is that Mistress?) devastatingly funny and an uncanny eye for the sublime.
