Aspiring to pouring the clever important men their coffee should surely be wondrous enough!

Thank goodness times are changing. Sometimes I wish for (good) manners and chivalry of old times, then remember, on seeing things like this, that boy, was there a flipside.

It must have driven women potty to be treated like this! Would this have anything to do with the popularity of antidepressants in the 60s and 70s?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-52023761796639785862009-01-17T17:19:00.000+11:002009-01-17T17:19:00.000+11:00That was just so good, I had to play it three time...That was just so good, I had to play it three times :)

Great post - where ever did you find that letter?Nerolihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02881529323750041437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-65629550578396561392009-01-16T04:24:00.000+11:002009-01-16T04:24:00.000+11:00the video is brilliant!the video is brilliant!saritihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16959097498444112465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-68942717195988474342009-01-15T14:39:00.000+11:002009-01-15T14:39:00.000+11:00I wonder too.. blue collar vs white collar ... When a man would interview for a position, the CEO (a woman) would often comment to me afterwards how he wouldn't fit in because he wasn't as "feeling" as a woman interviewing for a position.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm certainly not condoning the kind of sexism that was the norm in the 30's!

And I wonder how the above-mentioned Mary felt when she had to type that letter and send it off to another woman?

♥Nokomihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03869512865210491759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-58095106246472756762009-01-15T08:26:00.000+11:002009-01-15T08:26:00.000+11:00Jennine: That is sad to hear. I used to work in the recruitment business here and employers knew it wasn't the done thing unless they could prove a legal reason why a woman couldn't do the job. I did still come across a few dinosaurs who had issues with girls in the office if they weren't secretaries.

Doc Witch: I wonder if attitude varies by blue collar, white collar? At least we can do something about it these days.

Steps to the left: I imagine it would have been frustrating on so many levels. Particularly for women who were gainfully employed during the war effort, then discarded as "useless" women.

Imelda Matt: Indeed it was. Perhaps Mary wanted to keep the harem of colourists all to herself?

Floraposte: Makes you want to hit them in the head with your shoe.Candice DeVillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17556198036135539946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-54876988251198464202009-01-15T08:03:00.000+11:002009-01-15T08:03:00.000+11:00So carefully worded, polite, firm but the message ...So carefully worded, polite, firm but the message of "go back to the kitchen little woman" perfectly clear. The letters have changed but oh dear the message can stay the same. It is only 4 or 5 years ago when I worked in a place where they would not offer a job to a candidate who wore and engagement ring to an interview. "If she gets married she'll want to take time off to have babies" was the stated thinking!florapostehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09589013838034047099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-3426363766695629012009-01-14T23:20:00.000+11:002009-01-14T23:20:00.000+11:00J the irony wasn't lost on me and did my eyes dece...J the irony wasn't lost on me and did my eyes deceive me or was tastefully worded letter signed by 'Mary'?Imelda Matt - The Despotic Queen of Shoeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02896845761664399184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2639864987109803204.post-86347131231494616302009-01-14T22:51:00.000+11:002009-01-14T22:51:00.000+11:00That's amazing. So, i think there is still a long way for women to go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
