Outfit Details: Dress- Second hand store (1980's), Belt - Kmart, Shoes - Luca & Marc.This was Sunday's outfit to attend Miss Four's ballet concert. The dress I found at this great store in Houston called Buffalo Exchange. A large recycled clothing store full of all sorts of gems. This little lady set me back all of about $12. It is a rayon 1980's number complete with shoulder pads, and is super comfortable. It was a little chilly so I added a slip underneath. It was then I experienced a problem I haven't had since Sunday School days. The static cling of stockings, slip and dress. Crackly and nasty. I tried my old anti-static trick of putting moisturizer on the stockings, which worked fairly well, but I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to overcome this?

Shoes by Luca & MarcOn the hair front, my hair is now too long to work well in the hot rollers. I can get them in but it takes forever to get them out as they get all tangled and I nearly had to cut them out recently. So I had to come up with a new technique. What you see here is the result of my own version of a pin curl set. It takes almost no time, no special equipment and I love the result. I will be working on a tutorial for this during the week so hopefully I'll have a new video to show you by next week.

You can buy anti-static spray. I have one called 'Statique' which I bought at kmart for about $5 I believe.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's true, But I have read that if you stick a safety pin in the inside hemline of the dress, it'll do away with static.

I am going to blog about the repro patterns u commented on in my last blog. I will try to list all of the repro patterns I have. I just wait for my local JOANNE fabrics to have their 1$ pattern sale and then buy any and all of the repros they currently have in stock. I love your blog! O and darling outfit. They have some great 40's patterns too and there is a repro hat pattern that 1940s hats. I can't remember the number, I will put it in my blog, it is a vogue pattern I think.

Good old fashioned cheap aerosol hair spray. Just a quick spritz kills the static cling! Love the dress, so elegant.

Love that fine pleating on the shoulders of the dress. Static! Yuck! Hairspray does seem to work (especially when my hair gets all static-y and drives me mental)!

ReplyDeleteI heard a rumour that rubbing a wire coathanger against your skirt eliminate the electricity. I haven't tried it yet but I always suffer from a static-y skirt :( I just use the moisturiser too.

ReplyDeleteHave you changed the colour? It looks almost an inky blue black. Very striking. I had a goth boyfriend in my youth ( we were quite the odd couple) and he wore a similar shade. Not many can pull it off but on those who can its so fab.

ReplyDeleteIf you can find one, an anti-static slip works a treat. I thrifted one in Savers a few months ago, and lo and behold this nylon-made thing actually worked.
And I LOVE the hair! I'm looking forward to the tutorial; I've pinned curled mine a bit lately and some tips from an expert would be great!
